These coastal waters contribute to the oyster's rich mineral content and natural nutritional density. The unique conditions of this region allow us to grow oysters that reflect the heritage and deep-rooted tradition of Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
Our Oysters
Our team brings together generations of experience from Virginia's Eastern Shore. At the source of our grow operation is Dan Mears - a deep heritage sixth-generation oysterman whose family has harvested the same waters since the 1660's. Our founder, Hawkins Thomas, a Virginia Tidewater native, grew up harvesting shellfish in the marshes on the Eastern Shore and is passionate about the sustainability of aquaculture. We combine extensive knowledge with a shared dedication to delivering the finest oysters to our customers.

Our Story
Seaside Oyster Company began not in a boardroom, but in the salty marshes of Virginia’s Eastern Shore. At a young age, Hawkins discovered the wonder of harvesting wild oysters with his family on Cedar Island, near Metompkin Inlet, VA. Those early days weren’t just about eating seafood—they were about connection to nature, tradition, and the people he loved.
Even after Hawkins established his adult life in Northern Virginia, the simple joy of sharing oysters with his community has stayed with him. That passion would eventually become Seaside Oyster Company.
Today, every oyster we offer carries that story of childhood curiosity, family roots, and deep appreciation for the sea. We’re here to honor the legacy of those that came before us and share a true taste of the sea with our Northern Virginia customers, one oyster at a time.
